Why Send Save the Dates?

First off… Congratulations!

If you are reading this, you most likely have a shiny little something on your finger that you just can´t help but looking at, smiling, every now and then throughout the day.. Get ready my friend, because you have a lot of fun planning to do in the months ahead! (Also, say hello to your new best friend - Pinterest).

WHY SAVE THE DATES ARE IMPORTANT

Perhaps wedding planning has already started, and you have reserved a date for the event and debating wether to send or not to send save the date cards?

Let me ask you this: Do you want guests to attend your wedding?

If the answer is yes, then there is no reason not to send out save the dates cards to your potential wedding guests, friends and family. I promise you they will appreciate the heads-up and the courtesy of letting them know in advance. Especially if you are having a destination wedding or a three-day weekend event. Your wedding date is a definitely date worth saving, my friend!

The last thing you want is for your friends to have already made plans on your wedding date, or for another couple to plan their wedding on the same date as you. By sending out a save the date well in advance, these kinds of issues are less likely to happen.

Also, it’s a great way to get everyone (including yourself) excited for the big day, and you can go all in on pinning beautiful dresses, lush florals and stylish hair dos on Pinterest.

YOU DON’T NEED ALL THE SPECIFICS YET

It’s definitely okay not to have all the specifics at this time. A save the date card should include your names, the wedding date (or dates it you are doing a 2-3 day thing), location (only the city name is fine, if you are not 100% sure about the venue yet). You can also state that a ”formal invitation will follow” and include your wedding website or wedding hashtag if you are planning on using either of these for the wedding. The more specifics goes in the wedding invitation later on.

SAVE THE DATES SETS THE TONE

A save the date card is the first piece of stationery your guests will receive, which can gives a first little hint about the feel or style of the wedding you’re planning. You probably already have an idea if you want your wedding to feel modern with beautiful soft colors or simple, minimalistic and contemporary, etc.

CELEBRATE YOU AS A COUPLE
